Kennedy knew that a nuclear war would do no good to any of the nation and therefore, he wanted a lasting peace with USSR. In his speech he told that this planet belongs to all and the air that all breathe is the same air and therefore, they all need to protect it. However, this genuine peace is not happening for two reasons. One is individual attitude towards peace. Most of the Americans believe that peace is impossible and unreal and this is the defeatist belief that is stopping genuine peace between the United States and the Soviet Union.
